Progressives for Sailing Class

Serena is an artist who was a friend of my family as I was growing up. She was a real Auntie Mame and had an interesting background, including being a spy for the Americans when she was a lounge singer in a nightclub in Italy during WWII. She had a style she called Marbleized and I tried to duplicate it. See: Serena’s Sailboats’ series. Recently I used her technique and subject matter for this painting. Strictly from memory, it recalls the cliffs of Cove Neck, Long Island and the small boats I recall during regattas and sailing lessons there. I used lots of layers of paint and then varnish. It takes three times the effort and a lot of happy accidents to make it right.
